How to Clean Your Kitchen in 10 Minutes

Posted: 05/06/2025

Let’s face it. No one wants to spend hours scrubbing their kitchen, especially after a long day. But the good news? You can get your kitchen looking clean and fresh in just 10 minutes! All it takes is a bit of focus, the right tools, and a plan. Whether you’re expecting guests or just want a quick spruce up, here’s how to clean your kitchen in 10 minutes flat.

First Things First: Get Prepared

Before you start the timer, take one minute to gather your cleaning essentials. You’ll need:

  • Microfibre cloths or clean tea towels
  • All-purpose cleaner or kitchen spray
  • Washing up liquid
  • A sponge or scrubber
  • Bin bags
  • A broom or vacuum
  • Antibacterial wipes (optional but handy)

Got everything? Right, let’s begin.

Minute 1–2: Clear the Clutter

Start by removing anything that doesn’t belong in the kitchen. That pile of post, kids’ homework or rogue shoes? Pop it all in a basket or move it to the right room.

Next, stack dirty dishes neatly by the sink. If you’ve got a dishwasher, quickly load it up. If not, fill the sink with hot soapy water so things can soak while you do the rest.

Minute 3–5: Wipe Down Surfaces

Spray your worktops with kitchen cleaner and give them a good wipe. Pay attention to sticky spots near the hob and toaster.

If you've got time, give cupboard handles and light switches a quick once-over. These spots are easy to miss but collect a lot of grime.

Use a fresh cloth to wipe the dining table or breakfast bar too. Crumbs and spills have a habit of spreading further than you think.

Minute 6–7: Quick Tidy of the Fridge and Hob

Have a peek in the fridge and remove anything that's clearly off or past its date. Wipe up any spills on the shelves with a damp cloth.

Next, give your hob a quick clean. If it’s particularly greasy, spray it and let it sit while you finish the rest, then wipe it just before your time is up.

Minute 8–9: Sweep or Hoover the Floor

Grab your broom or vacuum and do a quick once-over of the floor. Focus on high-traffic areas, especially around the bin, fridge and cooker.

You don’t need perfection here. Just aim to pick up crumbs, pet hair or any dirt you can see.

Minute 10: Finishing Touches

Now’s the time to drain the sink and give it a quick scrub if needed. Rinse off any leftover suds and wipe the tap so it shines.

Empty the bin if it’s getting full and replace it with a clean liner. You can even light a scented candle or open a window for a fresh-smelling finish!

And That’s It!

Ten minutes might not sound like much, but you’ll be amazed how much better your kitchen looks and feels with a quick clean. Doing this daily or even a few times a week helps keep mess from building up and makes deep cleaning feel a lot less scary.
